WorldHope Corps Remembers Josie Dittrich (1947-2023)

In a heartfelt tribute, we remember and honor Josephine "Josie" Mae Dittrich, an extraordinary individual whose impact on WorldHope Corps will be forever cherished. Josie, a native of Kansas City, Kansas, and a resident of St. Simons Island since 2007, passed away peacefully on May 7, 2023.

Described by those who knew her as the embodiment of beauty, enthusiasm, generosity, and kindness, Josie was a beacon of light in the lives of many. Her warm and caring nature made her an immediate friend and mother figure to all, touching the hearts of everyone she encountered. Her loss leaves an irreplaceable void in the lives of those who had the privilege of knowing her, as her love and presence were truly transformative.

Josie's connection with WorldHope Corps spanned many years, where she served as both a mission volunteer and a generous supporter. She sponsored special projects and played a significant role in empowering women through her facilitation of Women's Empowerment workshops in Malawi, under the guidance of Pastor Dennis Singini, Director of WHC Malawi. Josie's commitment to making a difference led her to embark on multiple mission trips to Malawi, and she even sponsored Pastor Dennis for an extensive "friend-raising" journey across the United States in 2015.

Upon learning of Josie's passing, Pastor Dennis expressed his deep sorrow, acknowledging her as a mother figure who had always cared for him like a son. He fondly remembered Josie's nurturing presence and the profound impact she had on his life and the lives of many others. The WHC family mourns the loss of this remarkable woman, and our thoughts and prayers go out to Eva Dittrich and the entire family.

Josie's life was one of diverse experiences and unwavering dedication to serving others. From her time as a USO showgirl in the Vietnam War, where she earned a Purple Heart for her service, to her roles as a missionary, radio talk show host, chaplaincy hotline counselor, and television producer, Josie lived a life driven by compassion and a desire to make a positive impact. She collaborated with organizations like CitiHope International and WorldHope Corps to provide aid to underserved communities across the globe, working tirelessly in places such as Ethiopia, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Kyrgyzstan, and Haiti. Additionally, she partnered with the Golden Isles Lions Club to bring eyeglasses to remote villages in Malawi and personally sponsored the housing and education of several girls in the country. See more here.

Josie's passion for documenting and sharing stories of hope and resilience led her to capture countless precious moments in Malawi through her photography and video editing skills. One of her remarkable works, a video showcasing our co-sponsored project with the Methodists, stands as a testament to her deep emotional connection with the children and families she encountered: Video Link.

As we remember Josie's incredible journey and the profound impact she had on WorldHope Corps, we encourage you to learn more about the mission work she held so close to her heart by visiting our website at www.worldhopecorps.org. Her dedication and unwavering support have left an indelible mark on our organization and the lives of those we serve.

Rest in peace, dear Josie, in God’s presence. Rise in Glory!
