From the Mango Tree to Community Impact: Pr. Moses Baamu & Namazzi Annet’s USA Tour

On September 23, 2025, Pastor Moses Baamu and his wife, Namazzi Annet, traveled from Uganda to the United States to share their remarkable journey from subsistence farming to small business, to promote Shalom Coffee, and their ongoing work to build a community center, including the urgent need to drill a well.

Pastor Moses Waiswa Baamu is the Director of WorldHope Corps Uganda, Chairman of the “Source of the Nile” Shalom Coffee Cooperative, a district mayor, and a local pastor. Together with his wife, Annet Namazzi, they are dedicated to uplifting their community in Ssese-Jinja, Uganda. Moses has led his community from subsistence farming to establishing small businesses, particularly through Shalom Coffee, which is grown by local farmers and exported abroad. Annet Namazzi leads the Women’s Empowerment Cooperative, which produces and sells craft jewelry, and also helps run the Hope Tailoring School that empowers women and nurtures the next generation of entrepreneurs.

Their visit brings firsthand stories of transformation; how Shalom Coffee, grown at the Source of the Nile in Jinja, is now being roasted and sold in California, and how their community-led initiatives are bridging differences and creating lasting change. They arrived with 500g samples of Shalom Coffee from the Source of the Nile.

Their journey began with a warm Ugandan dinner in New York City, hosted by Dr. Caroline Njuki and attended by UN delegates and friends. Pr. Moses and Annet shared their Shalom Coffee story: "From the Mango Tree to a Community Center: How coffee beans can brew peace and build community across differences in the spirit of shalom." On Sunday, September 28, they worshipped at Ukiah United Methodist Church with Pastor Michele Robbins, Secretary of the WHC USA Board.

Throughout the tour, they share their story of Shalom Coffee, promote direct trade with Shalom coffee farmers, and convey a message about working together across differences. They invite new supporters to join their work. Attendees sample Shalom Coffee and learn how their support can help drill a new well and complete the community center.
